In honor of Bastille Day, we'd like to know: What's your favorite thing to come out of France?
That's easy!
This song has caught my attention lately-
Isn't it catchy? I once finished listening to it on B96, switched to the Current and heard it again. That's what I love about this latest single from Common, it reaches across different musical tastes and styles.
I promise, too, as I unearth my music collection from their comatose state, I will try and post a song or two.

I went for it. I scheduled the pick-up, purchased the proper shipping boxes, spent an afternoon counting and boxing up my whole 20+ years worth of CD collecting and then sealed them up and slapped on the shipping labels.
And then I waited a few days for their departure. Did I miss them and want to tear into the boxes? No. Do I miss them now? No. Did I listen to them very much while I owned them? No. And that was part of the whole problem in the first place. I used to love that. I'd get a new CD, tear off the plastic wrap, and very expertly remove the label sticker off the jewel case and then take a whiff of that newly purchased CD smell. I loved having the lyrics and the liner notes. But as the years went by (and with the birth of my son) I have migrated more and more towards the convenience of listening to music online or via satellite or even (God forbid!) the radio. And I don't really have the disposable income anymore to buy a whole album on disc (or a shiny brand-new iPod Touch).
Now that everything is said and done and I own a sleek new iPod; I absolutely love the trade off. This weekend we drove down to Mankato and I was able to watch an episode of Oprah that Jon downloaded from Tivo and on the return home a movie we uploaded from iTunes. "Bitchin!" I say. And "When's the next road trip?"
For me by far is this song:
Runner up (thanks to SYTYCD):
The catchiest:
It's your turn, what are your favorite songs of '08? And aren't you glad this year is finally over? Me too.
Last night while returning home from a late night of Christmas shopping, Jon was shuffling through his Sirus radio- landing on nothing but crap (in my opinion). I was bored and tired and my body was slowly preparing itself for sleep. Until this song came on - (feast your ears on this lovely tune!)
Friday night Jon was scrolling the 120 Minutes' playlist from a website that has all the old archives (1986-1995). He would then type the name of song into YouTube and see if I could recognize the song title and artist. I grew more and more impatient wanting to see the list myself. I think Jon regretted handing his laptop over to me because I was hooked. I haven't thought about half of these songs since High School. It was a major flash back in time for me, remembering all the hours spent taping and watching 120 minutes, listening to KROQ, playing cassette tape compilations my friends made in my car, or Eric's first run at DJing. It kind of got me to thinking, "Why has my enthusiasm for music taken a backseat in my life lately?"
Here is a sample I plucked right from the playlists of the songs that brought me back to my wonderful High School years (1986-1990) and a little beyond: (without the obvious Cure, Depeche Mode, REM and etc)
