Baddha Utthita Parsvakonasana
That's the proper yoga term for side angle pose (bound). Pictured here:
This is one of my favorite poses (and not as easy as it looks). Last night in class we took this pose three steps further:
1) While staying bound, take opposite leg and slowly move it in until it's like straight up and down. (That's the best way I can describe it.)
2) Shift balance to the straightened leg and slowly lift opposite leg (while bound). Should now be standing on one leg and tucked in bound position. (Sounds impossible; but it's not.)
3) Balanced properly, extend bent bound leg. (Yeah, I thought the instructor was crazy too.)
4) Repeat for opposite leg.
5) Be very proud of oneself for achieving this advanced position. Go home and show husband.
